Prior to this tournament, the Star Warrior and Thantos battled for the GWF title. A Federation Exile Match was signed where the loser would be banished for 15 cards. The match ended in controversial fashion with the referee calling a disqualification on Thantos. The championship committee allowed the decision to stand and Thantos was banished. The title was held up and a tournament signed to determine the new champion.
